Gospel and Spiritual 9/20/10 numerous of the gospel spirituals had a meaning. Some were meant for unity of emotions or for a culture. It helped people force to spend a pennyher as integrity. It gave African Americans a way of expressing themselves in hard times. Spirituals have a seemingly magical major power to speak to cosmopolitan issues of the human spirit.
